‘My name is Lateisha Davine Lovelace-Hanson. My name is important to me. It serves an introduction to who I am, where I have been, who I come from and where I must go… My name serves as a reminder. That I am Here, that I am Now, that my life, all my Life(s), Matters.’
Lateisha Davine Lovelace-Hanson is an Artist working predominately in the mediums of Theatre, Poetry and Workshop/Gathering spaces. Born in 1989 North-East London to Jamaican parents (Maxine and Linton J) she spent much of her childhood in West Yorkshire before moving back to London and settling in her cosmic spiritual and ancestral channelling home; South East London.
She is a Director and Artistic Director of Hit The Ground (movement supported by Free Word Centre, Lyric Hammersmith, Barbican), Actor (credits here inc. West Yorkshire Playhouse, Theatre 503, Ice and Fire: Actors For Human Rights) Spoken Word Poet (Green Man Festival 2016, Roundhouse Slam Finalist 2015, Hammer & Tongue Team Slam Finalist 2014, Apples and Snakes poet/blogger/podcaster) Workshop Facilitator (Cardboard Citizens, Talawa, Peckham Shed), Children’s Storyteller (Discover Children’s Story Centre, Theatrebugs) and creative producer of conscious, creative, celebratory sharing event WRD PRTY. She is also an organiser/ collective member of ANTIUNIVERSITY and on the committee for DIY SPACE FOR LONDON.
Using performance, writing, facilitation to create/enable activism, advocacy and authorship her work is Always visual, playful and cosmic. Delving head first into questions, stories and myths that illuminate the beauty of life itself – of what connects us all as living, breathing Human beings on Earth. She focuses her work on empowering the space of ‘Otherness’, the space of the radical, the space of the ‘ones who do not, and will not fit/assimilate’, thus destroying the walls of structural racial, class and gender violence both in the classroom and on the stage. She does this with Love, Energy and Protest.
‘Play Time is Not Over, as to play is to be alive, and to be alive is to be Powerful…’
She is inspired by Trees… they point her Towards our liberation, our justice, our peace.
We connected the You. Us. To Us, Us. Small connections make us. They made us. Bore Us, of matter, not fact. ‘Us’ of the stars. Is this US? Us? The universal honest stuff? Do you see us? See us. Feeding. Blinking. Repeating. Calling this living! See. With us. We Need. We must. We Matter, so Know us. So who is gonna lead us? Make the connections to challenge the stuff that rule us. Break us. Distract us from our True Us – OUR US, US. Who’s gonna do that for US? BE US. To complete us…Free Us.
All of Us.
